Seren
My son Seren has always been one of my favorite subjects to photograph, but it was a delicate balance—giving him the freedom to simply be without the intrusion of a camera, while also capturing his pure reactions and instinctive connection to the world. I wanted to record his sense of wonder, unbridled joy, contemplation, and spontaneous interactions with nature—tasting glacier fragments, spitting water, kicking dirt into a boiling geothermal stream, and feeling the wind rush around him. He simply became integrated with his surroundings, experiencing nature as a child would in their own backyard.
By the age of nine, Seren had travelled to every continent. For all his love of adventure in distant places, when my mom asked which was his favorite, he answered simply: “Home.”
